And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it.

In an interview with Attitude magazine, Bill said that there will be a small subplot in the film about LeFou's sexuality.

Watson's costars Dan Stevens (the Beast), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Plumette) and Josh Gad (LeFou) join in on praising the female lead.

Josh Gad was asked on Twitter to confirm this bit of news from Condon.

A trailer clip released for the film showed LeFou heaping lavish praise on Gaston who seems to be enjoying the attention.

"Beauty and the Beast" tells the story of a prince who is transformed into a beast, and a young woman who is imprisoned in his castle, as he tries to win her love.

Gad also tweeted that he feels "beyond proud" to have made Disney history, as this is the first time in their history that an openly gay character is going to appear on the big screen.

Ahead of Beauty and the Beast's forthcoming UK release later this month, the kind folk at Disney UK have launched this magical featurette detailing the film's everlasting heroine; Belle.

Earlier this week, Disney Channel XD's Star vs the Forces of Evil featured a same-sex kiss with back-ground characters.

"I didn't give it a second thought, then at the preview, the (Disney) chairman told me that it was the first and second interracial kiss in a Disney movie", said Condon during an interview with BBC Radio 4's Front Row.

The "Beauty and the Beast" live action remake debuts in the U.S. March 17. "It was a very concrete thing that he was doing".

In the new clip, Beast goes to Belle's room to extend a dinner invitation to his new guest. but let's just say his bedside manner needs a little work.

Condon was reported by multiple outlets in saying the re-imagination of LeFou was down as a tribute to Howard Ashman, a legendary playwright and lyricist. Emma Watson stars as Belle - a role she accepted on the grounds that this would be a feminist reinvention of the original.
