WEATHER: Tornado watch issued for North Iowa

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service have now confirmed a tornado in NW Davenport on Monday night.

The tornado had estimated peak wind speed of 180 miles per hour and a path 50.4 miles long.

"Due to the generous donations that have poured into our community since the Tuesday evening tornado and associated storms, we have determined that all physical needs have been met", the department said in a news release.

A second tornado touched down near Montgomery around 5:05 a.m. with a rating of EF-2. Wentzville, Missouri police Major Paul West says several businesses were damaged.

There was significant damage to an outbuilding and a roof of a residence in this area.


Earlier Monday, Nichols said fire crews from several area departments were fighting a large brush fire in the 5400 block of N.W. Docking Road near Silver Lake which was affected by the weather including high winds. There was also sporadic tree damage.

Travis M. Koenig, 24, of Perryville, was killed when the tornado tossed his truck 100 yards from I-55. The funnel was on the ground for almost a mile and for one minute at 7:32 p.m.

The three additional tornados include Smith County and two portions of Putnam County.

In the rest of the state, residents should expect lows around 12 degrees and highs of up to 38, and winds reaching around 9 miles per hour, the weather service said.
