Little Ashanti Hughes died on Saturday morning after suffering severe burns in the house fire, sparked by a charging hoverboard, at 2534 Lexington Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday.

Harrisburg Bureau of Fire Lt. Dennis Devoe was involved in auto crash with another vehicle as he was responding to the Friday night blaze.

Fire crews pulled three minors from a burning home in uptown Harrisburg Friday night, and at least one suffered severe burns, police said.

'They heard some sizzling and crackling in the hoverboard and shortly thereafter, it exploded in flames, ' Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline said.

Khanyae Kendall, 18, was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, receiving stolen property, accident involving death or injury by a person not properly licensed, accidents involving death or personal injury, accident involving damage to attended vehicle, DUI and six summary violations, according to court records. Fire officials said it was caused by an exploding hoverboard. The blaze killed one girl and injured four other people, two critically. A teenage boy and a man were also hurt, but both were released from the hospital. She was later arrested when she showed up to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. The firefighter died Saturday night of his injuries at Hershey Medical Center.

Charles Allen said to WHP-TV that he witnessed little girls screaming in the building's second story.

Numerous firefighters battling the blaze had just come from the funeral of a retired firefighter who died of cancer, he said. Police said Kendall was under the influence, and fled the scene.

Lt. Dennis DeVoe 'was a leader in our department and the fire service as a whole, ' Enterline said.

"Our hearts are broken and we grieve for the loss of our brother", he said in a statement.

Scott Wolfson, a Consumer Products Safety Commission spokesman, told NBC News that there have been more than 100 hoverboard fires since the fall of 2015.
