The President then flew to Tennessee where he would honor President Andrew Jackson during his 250th birthday celebration.

While it's standard procedure for venues to close during presidential visits, President Donald Trump's visit to the Hermitage Wednesday has drawn ire from fans of the the 7th President. After visiting Jackson's tomb, the president will take a private tour of the mansion and conclude with remarks from the front porch. Some came after they were in office.

"Your visit got Trumped", said Bridget Blair Wietlisbach to a commentor bemoaning his cancelled visit.

Thousands of people are gathering in Nashville for a chance to hear President Trump speak. Jackson, whom Obama kicked off the $20 bill, has received a new lease on life in the White House under new management. Trump is a known fan of Jackson, who has a controversial legacy due to his slave ownership and his role in removing Native Americans from their lands. Jackson was born in relative poverty, while Trump famously entered the world in wealth, and the presidency without any experience in public service.

"No one who was at Washington at the time of General Jackson's inauguration is likely to forget that period to the day of his death", journalist and author Arthur J. Stansbury recalled at the time, as explained in a biography of Francis Scott Key.

"We have Washington objects that were given to Andrew Jackson because he was seen as the next George Washington", Kittell says. He figures Jackson would be on board with Trump's effort to shrink the federal government.
