Spurs manager Pochettino: "Kane's injury is a big opportunity for Janssen"

Erik Lamela remains on the sidelines with a hip injury while Harry Kane misses out for the first time since he damaged ankle ligaments last weekend.

Pochettino says that Kane is in positive mood and jokes that he could be back inside four weeks, but the Spurs boss wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to the six week mark.

Pochettino said: "We need to assess him day by day".

He said: "The period at the beginning of the season was hard".

With 19 goals and four assists in Premier League duty so far this season, the Englishman has been directly involved in 43% of his team's 53 goals in the division.

"That is good but at the same time we need to be careful with his injury". We trust completely in our doctor and physios and the department, which looks after them in the best way.

Although nowhere near one another in the table, the story of each sides' season is remarkably similar, with both going into the game off the back of positive results, setting up an intriguing contest.

Son scored his first Spurs hat-trick after Kane was substituted and has 14 goals for the club this season, but Janssen, who also scored against the Lions, has struggled in his first season at White Hart Lane. We have many players that can cope with that pressure, "Pochettino said in the press conference ahead of the coming game with Southampton".

"We are very confident in our players and squad". When you have a main striker like Harry Kane that scores goals and plays well, it's hard for your second or third striker or offensive player to take his place or have the possibility to play.

"We have good players who sometimes deserve to play, but because we pick different players..." It was Ronald Koeman's men then that beat us 2-1 in the penultimate game of our season with two Steven Davis goals which led to Saints making their highest finish in 6th-place.

Tottenham are not alone in their reliance on one player - Kane - for the vast majority of their goals, given the likes of Diego Costa, Alexis Sanchez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero are all similarly dominant at their clubs. That offensive spearhead will be hoping to make it an unlucky 13 for Spurs cos we have won 12 games in a row at the Lane.
