Crayola boots dandelion for bluish crayon yet to be named

Another spoiler: The packaging on the 120-pack, announcing the retirement, says, "Name the new color for a chance to win!" "There is no taming an adventurous spirit!"

Joining Dandelion as replacements were Jungle Green, Vivid Tangerine, Cerulean, Teal Blue, Royal Purple, Fuchsia, and Wild Strawberry.

Although Crayola has not officially retired any color in the past, according to the website Crayon Collecting, some shades like "Chartreuse Fluorescent", "Flesh" and "Magic Magenta" have been renamed.

Crayola announced that it would be retired the color of dandelion from its crayon box. For an addition fee, a limited edition, two-pound dandelion crayon will be for sale in the Crayola Store.

Other colors that now lie fallow include maize, raw umber and orange yellow.

Crayola has confirmed that the Dandelion crayon is being dropped from its current range make way for a new hue. But this did not push through when Dan D revealed his retirement ahead of Crayola's Facebook live announcement at New York's Times Square.


With the surprise over which color is being removed from the Crayola lineup having been ruined, that does not mean that the company cannot still enjoy National Crayon Day with their retirement party for Dandelion.

This crayon box ain't big enough for all 24 of you.

Once a color is retired, the Forks Township, Penn. -based company will not produce any more crayons in that shade.

"Today was supposed to be the big reveal, as you know", said Melanie Bolden, Crayola's senior vice president of USA and global marketing.
