M. Stewart Ryan, speaking for the Commonwealth, said the case was related, pointing out how Cosby also said in the deposition he used a different kind of pill on Constand.

Pennsylvania prosecutors argue that the anecdote in Cosby's memoir about attempting to give the substance to girls as a young man shows he is not opposed to drugging women for sex, NBC News reported.

Along with discussing the layout of the jury, Cosby's lawyer's discussed whether damaging comments Cosby made about Constand during a 2006 deposition in the civil suit she filed against the comedian will be allowed in the trial.

Prosecutors say that testimony, along with comedic riffs about the supposed aphrodisiac Spanish fly, show that Cosby is familiar with date rape drugs.

"This case never had anything to do with Andrea Constand", he said, referring to the former Temple University employee the comedian is charged with sexually assaulting.

"You can not walk into a grocery store, a convenience store, a minimart, without seeing (tabloid reports). calling him a rapist", defense lawyer Angela Agrusa argued Monday.

However, Cosby's defence lawyers say the remarks on Spanish fly were clearly a joke. That could increase the number of people claiming a hardship situation as lawyers seek a dozen jurors and six alternates.

O'Neill plans to pick jurors in late May so they're in place for the June 5 trial. Pittsburgh is the county seat in Allegheny, which is about 300 miles from the site of Cosby's trial in Norristown, Pennsylvania.

Bill Cosby and an aide leaving court in Norristown, Pennsylvania, during a lunch break at an April 3 pretrial hearing on sexual assault charges. Judge O'Neill expects the trial to last two weeks. He calls the encounter consensual. The defense called the quaaludes testimony irrelevant because the prescription sedative was banned long before Cosby met Constand. The jury should be allowed to consider the deposition since it provides a critical perspective "of an individual who freely admits to facilitating sexual assault by administering an intoxicant", Ryan added.

McMonagle and Agrusa originally proposed a jury selection protocol that included mailing questionnaires to up to 2,000 prospective jurors, before in-person jury selection began, in an effort to weed out those who may have already formed opinions regarding Cosby's guilt or innocence.
