Novak Djokovic and Troicki had won Friday's singles for a 2-0 lead before the 2010 champions took an unassailable advantage on Saturday against a Spanish team missing 14-time Grand Slam victor Rafael Nadal who opted to sit out the tie.

If Novak Djokovic was looking to gain some positive energy from Davis Cup to get his season back on track then Serbia's triumphant weekend in Belgrade over Spain has probably done the trick.

World number 19 Pablo Carreno-Busta will instead lead Spain's assault on a first semi-final spot since 2012.

In Belgrade, Serb Novak Djokovic returned in style after an elbow injury, sweeping past Albert Ramos Vinolas of Spain 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on indoor hard courts.

Lucas Pouille and Jeremy Chardy both scored straight-sets wins yesterday staking France to a 2-0 lead over 2015 champion Great Britain, which was without world No. 1 Andy Murray.

Victory gave 40-year-old playing-captain Zimonjic, who has not missed a Davis Cup tie for a decade, a 30th win in the tournament.

"Taking into consideration the Spanish team rankings, they are not to be underestimated at all", Djokovic told Thursday's draw news conference.

France and Serbia faced each other in the 2010 final when Djokovic led his nation to a first title.

"I have lost my best game in the last few months", Djokovic, whose French Open win in June past year allowed him to complete the career Grand Slam, told reporters after securing a 12th successive Davis Cup singles win.

Belgium had a match point to win the doubles and the quarterfinal in the fifth-set tiebreaker, but the Italians saved it and won the last three points. "I have two players in the Top 25, we have a great team and will do everything in our power to win".

After falling a set and a break down, the Serbian duo battled back to clinch a victory that sets up a semi-final against France, who also progressed without the need for play on Sunday thanks to Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut's triumph.

In Charleroi, Italy's Andreas Seppi and Simone Bolelli saved a match point to see off Ruben Bemelmans and Joris De Loore 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8/6).

World No. 16 Nick Kyrgios is scheduled to face Sock in the fourth rubber, before a possible deciding contest between Jordan Thompson and John Isner.
