Mourinho takes another swipe at his misfiring attack

Manchester United manager José Mourinho had some choice words for his forwards after the side's 1-1 draw at Anderlecht on Thursday night.

The opening goal eventually came on 36 minutes, with Henrik Mkhiraryan firing home after Ruben Martinez had saved a Marcus Rashford effort.

And Mourinho says his forwards, in particular, the club's younger brigade, need to be more clinical in front of goal.

"We have to kill matches", Mourinho told BT Sport.

"When I give some assists to people and we don't score it can happen, nobody talks about this - but it's fine because they want me to score goals because of the mountain of the transfer", the 24-year-old was quoted as saying. "That's the objective, that's the big one", Pogba said of his team's aim.

"Sloppy is the best word - in my poor English I can not locate a much better word".

"We have an easy game to play in the second half and we didn't - we lost the ball easily".

Player ratingsManchester United: Sergio Romero 6, Antonio Valencia 7, Eric Bailly 6, Marcos Rojo 6, Matteo Darmian 6, Michael Carrick 7, Jesse Lingard 7, Paul Pogba 7, Henrikh Mkhitaryan 7, Marcus Rashford 8, Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6.

"We had all the conditions to kill everything today". But, equally, the boss felt the result should have been better and has placed the blame firmly at the feet of his forwards.

"Mourinho is too good a manager and they have enough money to fix any lingering problems with players - many of whom just do not look good enough to play for United".

United's inability to kill teams off has been a factor throughout the season.

"It looks like they will have to win the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League, but maybe it is better for them to focus on that now rather than be hanging around the edge of the top-four race", he said. "We will have to do the same or more than before to get another win".

And if the Premier League route closes, Mourinho said he would be prepared to rest his players in league matches to keep them fresh for their European engagements.

The game at Brussels was a ideal reflection of United's frustrating season as far as the finishing department was concerned. The chances where we feel the space is there, the time is there, the end decision is wrong.
