Fans will frame their game programs and fathers and mothers will tell sons and daughters about their chance to watch Westbrook tie Oscar Robertson's 55-year old record of 41 triple-doubles in the season.

As if that wasn't impressive enough, Westbrook also rattled off his seventh straight triple-double, which ties his career-best streak and leaves him two games behind Wilt Chamberlain for the all-time record, according to's Royce Young.

Westbrook fell a rebound short of an historic triple-double, but scored 45 points, including the Thunder's final five points to lead Oklahoma City to a 103-100 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 10 points in the period, and Russell Westbrook had 9 for the Thunder.

The game was tied at 95-all until Doug McDermott connected on a 3-pointer, earning Westbrook his 10th assist, with 1:24 left. He averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists that season.

Even the stoic Westbrook could not help but describe what the moment meant to him after Oklahoma City's 110-79 National Basketball Association (NBA) victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

OKC improved to 44-33 on the season as they conclude their three-game homestand.

Westbrook only needs one more triple-double to break Robertson's record and take his place in National Basketball Association history, but right now, it's safe to say his focus is on picking up important wins to help OKC's playoff seeding.

Russell Westbrook waves to the crowd after tying the record for triple-doubles in a season. He had seven consecutive triple-doubles from November 22 to December 5.

"It was a special night", Westbrook said.

With triple-doubles in six consecutive games and a 14-day span since the last time he failed to register one, Westbrook has ignited the Thunder's offense and submitted a legendary performance.

Klay Thompson scored 41 points and Stephen Curry filled up the highlight reel on his way to 19 points and nine assists as the Golden State Warriors beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-107 for their 12th straight win.

With his left leg crossed in front of his right, Russell Westbrook gave a little wave and patted his heart. Kemba Walker scored 37 points, but the Hornets' All-Star guard went cold in the third quarter. The Grizzlies really struggled in the fastbreak points department, as they trailed in this category 23-6 at the half.

All the things that have stood out about Westbrook over the years have put him in position to rewrite the record books. During "The Big O's" record-setting season, the Cincinnati Royals averaged 124.9 possessions per game. "That's the most important part to me". Still, there are games to be played and a level to reach as they enter the postseason. Though, the first meeting between Thunder vs Grizzlies has ended with the result of Grizzlies' win.

The Thunder guard now needs a total of six assists in the final four games to average a triple-double for the season. This is the fourth and final game between Thunder vs Grizzlies.
