"It is an attempt by him to throw up false flags, create confusion", said department spokesman Mark Toner, alluding to what Assad said in the interview Wednesday.

Mohammad Javad Zarif from Iran agreed that the U.S. bombing of Syria was out of order.

Lavrov said the probe, which Russian Federation has called for before, should be organized under the auspices of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Additional such actions would entail "grave consequences not only for regional but global security", Lavrov said.

The recent USA military intervention in Syria will have no impact on the Astana talks and Iran, Russia, and Turkey carry on with their agenda to find a political solution to the Syrian war, Iran's Foreign Ministry said. US President Donald Trump said the attack was a response to the alleged chemical weapon use in Syria's Idlib, which Washington blames on the Syrian government.

The attack, which US officials believe took place with the knowledge of high-ranking Syrian government officials, prompted Trump to launch the USA military's first direct assault on an Assad-linked target since Syria's war began six years ago.

"If our US colleagues and some European nations believe that their version is right, they have no reason to fear the creation of such an independent group", Lavrov announced.

Lavrov that Moscow has asked Washington about the objective of the buildup and received assurances they were there to cut supply lines between the Islamic State group factions in Syria and Iraq.

Activists including the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said buses carrying rebels began leaving the rebel-held towns Madaya and Zabadani near Damascus on Friday morning in the first phase of the deal, which will also see the evacuation of residents from two pro-government Shiite villages in northern Syria. The group had earlier certified that Syria disposed of its stockpiles and was dismantling product facilities under a deal Russian Federation helped broker with the U.S.in 2013. Moallem said. He added that Russia, Iran and Syria have "common procedures against any aggression", but wouldn't offer any specifics.

Russia, Iran and Syria want an independent investigation and those opposed to the call "don't have a clear conscience", Lavrov said.

The Khan Sheikhoun incident prompted the first direct United States military action against Assad's government since the war began, with 59 cruise missiles hitting the Shayrat airbase three days after the suspected chemical attack. It has conducted an air campaign in Syria since September 2015, saving Assad's government from imminent collapse and helping to reverse the Syrian military's fortunes.
