Everton's hardline stance with Romelu Lukaku is working - for now

Everton have placed a £100m price tag on Manchester United target Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.

If clubs are unwilling to match Everton's asking price Lukaku will have little option to keep on playing, aware that a severe dip in his performances could hinder his World Cup place next summer.

However, they are expected to face stiff resistance for his signature as Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in him and Everton are expected to demand big money for the hitman.

Lukaku made a name for himself as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe during a loan spell from Chelsea with West Bromwich Albion before he blossomed into the prolific powerhouse of a striker that he is today with Everton.

With West Ham now 14 in the standings and not an elite team in World football, it is unlikely that Lukaku would have ever considered signing for them especially as he is one of the best strikers in the world at the moment.

Mourinho is now in charge of United and that could also work against the Old Trafford club.

Chelsea need to sign Lukaku with concerns hanging over the head of Diego Costa.

Tottenham's star forward has 20 goals in the Premier League, while Everton's Belgian ace leads the charts with 24.

If Everton, fuelled by Lukaku's goals, can pierce the top four next season then even better (the best case scenario). The Merseyside club see Lukaku as the ideal player to build their team around by recruiting heavily in the summer. However, it seems the Belgian favors a move back to Chelsea, even if his current club do not.
