Police said it wasn't clear whether Stephens had any help while he was on the run or where he had been and that investigators will try to retrace his steps. While the auto was spinning out of control Stephens pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Steve Stephens was spotted this morning by PSP members in Erie County.

By the time Stephens left the restaurant and turned onto Buffalo Road, where police say he ultimately killed himself, police were right behind him, DuCharme said. "Those officers responded, the vehicle fled from that area, there was a short pursuit in which the vehicle was stopped, and as the officers approached he took his own life".

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams highlighted the fantastic forgiveness extended by the family of the victim.

The incident is still under investigation.

"They were forgiving of Steve for this atrocious act, and we need to follow their lead", he said.

Godwin's family has forgiven Stephens and said they hold no animosity toward him.

Facebook said Stephens' account was suspended within 23 minutes of the murder video being reported, but admitted it needs to "do better".

Zuckerberg, speaking at Facebook's annual conference for software developers, expressed the sympathy of company employees to the friends and family of the shooting victim.

In addition to posting a video of the murder, Stephens also went live twice, the first time announcing his intent to kill - and the final time, after the murder, confessing.

And just as brazenly, in a 2nd video uploaded to Facebook (above), Stephens called his crime the "Easter Sunday massacre".

"That is not my son", Maggie Green said Wednesday about the so-called Facebook killer.

Federal, state and local law-enforcement agencies had launched a nationwide manhunt for Stephens, who was wanted on an aggravated murder charge. The two last spoke Saturday night when Stephens told Lane he quit his job and was going to leave the state.
