"After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself", police said.

Pennsylvania State Police officers found Stephens in Erie County, Penn., after getting a tip from the public that his white Ford Fusion was parked outside a McDonald's (mcd) fast-food restaurant, Calvin Williams, the Cleveland police chief, told a news conference.

Steve Stephens made a drive-thru order at the branch of McDonald's in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania police have pulled data from his car's navigation system to trace his steps leading up to his death.

Stephens, 37, was named on the FBI's Most Wanted list for fatally shooting 74-year-old Robert Godwin, Sr. on Sunday in Cleveland, Ohio. Stephens told the elderly man that Lane was the reason he was being killed before shooting the Cleveland man in the head.

An expanded version of this report appears on WSJ.com.

The US man wanted for killing an elderly man in OH and then posting a video of the murder on Facebook fatally shot himself on Tuesday after a brief pursuit in neighbouring Pennsylvania, police said.

"Two seconds later, I hear these sirens, and they come whipping past me", she said.

Stephens took his six-piece Chicken McNuggets and declined to wait for the fries, however.

Godwin is known to be Stephens' only victim, even though he wrote about killing 12 to 15 people.

The woman, Joy Lane, told WJW-TV in Cleveland that she last talked with Stephens on Saturday night, when he told her he had quit his job and was moving out of state.

The fugitive's mobile phone signal was last tracked on Sunday afternoon to Erie, 100 miles (160km) from where Mr Godwin was gunned down.

Stephens said in one Facebook video that "I killed 13, so I'm working on 14 as we speak".

The chilling video was on Facebook for three hours before it was taken down.

We've all heard that statement but the anxiety that Stephens must have had at that moment would have been less joy than than that watered down one dollar diet coke he was sipping on. "This is a very hard time for me and my family Please respect our privacy at this time", she said in a statement. "I wish it had gone down like that instead of him shooting himself".
