Jennifer White says the animal grabbed her daughter Cheyenne and bit her on the head during a visit Saturday at Harmony Park Safari near Huntsville, Alabama.

A concerned mother says she is unhappy about how Harmony Park Safari handled a hard situation.

She was only centimetres from the captive roo when her three-year-old sister reached through the wire fence, causing the Australian native to lash out and grab Cheyenne by the hair.

The incident left the 9-year-old girl with 14 stitches.

Jennifer White, the girls' mother, was taking cell phone video as the 3-year-old reaches through the fence.

The family had been there many times before, but they had never before seen the kangaroos.

White says she made a decision to surprise her daughters over the weekend with a trip to one of their favorite places. "Why did I take her to see the kangaroo?"

"I'm just glad it got me instead of my baby sister because it would have hurt her even worse", said victim Cheyene. "I was like, 'Yay! We're at the safari zoo", said Cheyenne. An employee told us the owners didn't want to comment about what happened, but did point us to a state law posted that says people take some of their own risks when visiting an agri-tourism business. "I thought it was playing", Cheyenne said.

And there are two plaques on the fence that say "I Bite".

Cheyenne's mother says she isn't telling anyone not to take their kids to the zoo.
