Instagram users will now be able to choose from a range of filters including koala ears that move and twitch as well as math equations that spin to create humorous effects.

Weil, the former VP of Product at Twitter, has been at Instagram for around 15 months. Once done sprucing up the image, users can send the photo or video through Instagram Direct or post it to their Stories. Yet, considering Snap's success with its sponsored Lenses, it is likely only a matter of time before Instagram begins bringing brands onboard.

While Face Filters is the main addition released Tuesday, the company is also adding some other tools to use while in Stories.

Last but not the least, Instagram is introducing a new hashtag sticker along with a new eraser tool.

Instagram's new face filters will work for both the rear- and front-facing cameras on a user's smartphone. Crowns, animal ears and every other face adorning item that Snapchat made popular now appears in the update.

You can also record videos in reverse with Rewind.

Instagram is well-known for hashtags added all the pictures/video we post to the platform on the daily. With Snapchat refusing to launch an app for Windows 10 Mobile, however, Instagram can easily fill that niche.

Launched almost six months ago, Instagram Stories has already surpassed Snapchat in the number of total daily active users. As part of the update, when you take a photo/video and tap the smiley face shown on screen, you'll see a new selfie sticker featuring your profile photo, that lets you capture a mini selfie. Then, using the eraser brush, you can creatively reveal parts of your photo or video underneath. In fact, the picture-based network will make up 20% of Facebook's domestic mobile revenue this year - up from 15%, last year - eMarketer estimates.
