Melissa McCarthy adds spice (and Spicer) as host of 'SNL'

The sketch comes after McCarthy was spotted on the streets of New York City on Spicer's mobile press podium.

The sketch saw Aidy Bryant's Sarah Huckabee Sanders filling in for Spicer, who she reassured was fulfilling his naval duties, though he was clearly hiding in the bushes outside.

Though, chances are, SNL was going to center on the the fan-favorite character whether or not the real Spicer returned to the podium this week.

He has also referred to McCarthy's tendency, when dressed as Spicer, to drive a motorized lectern rapidly toward a reporter who asks an aggravating question.

It was a cop out and cheap sight gag, as if the show has nothing interesting to say about Trump or Spicer after the week of chaos following James Comey's firing.

The Post initially described the scenario as Spicer standing "in the bushes" but later issued a clarification stating he was "among the bushes".

"I'm married", Spicer protests weakly.

With the obvious joke covered, the sketch then addressed media reports speculating that Sanders would soon be taking over Spicer's position. "Sarah's out", the faux press secretary declared.

McCarthy's Spicer suddenly leaves the press room on the electric podium, setting off for NY to find Trump.

"He wouldn't do that", McCarthy's Spicer said. "Trump is innocent. How do we know?" He told us so.There's no Russian Federation thing. McCarthy asked, to which Reynolds said in a deadpan tone, "You invited us".

The faux press secretary also broke out a set of Russian nesting dolls to prove the point. Has he been lying to Spicer? "So what actually happened is Trump conferred with his good, good friend Steve Bannon (Slimer from Ghostbusters) and the decision to fire Comey was even confirmed by Trump's tiniest little buddy Jeff Sessions (Pikachu)". Yikes. When he gets to a matryoshka doll with Vladimir Putin on it, McCarthy's Spicer tries to hide it.

McCarthy then played an unsettling actress named Donna in promotional material for a distributor called Lighthouse Features who frightened executives and made them feel "itchy".

"Sean", Trump said. "Kiss me".

When members of the press questioned whether Spicer's job is safe, McCarthy-as-Spicer headed off to NY to find reassurance from Trump himself-hence the pre-recorded segment on city streets. And then I get off, and I have all of these texts, like "Oh, my God, are you looking at what's happening?"

Next week is the show's season finale, with Baldwin already locked down to play Trump.

Prior to his inauguration as President, Trump frequently responded to his portrayal on the NBC show. Spoiler alert: Spicer ends up kissing a certain president.

Unimpressed, the Deadpool actor replied: 'You invited us'.
