President Donald Trump speaks at the National Peace Officers Memorial Service on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, U.S., May 15, 2017.

Haley also made it clear that she believes the Western Wall is part of Israel - something both National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer avoided saying after the news broke that Trump was planning to visit one of Judaism's holiest sites while on his first trip overseas as president.

"I prayed for the president and I wished him success, especially on his upcoming trip", Friedman said in a video posted on the U.S. embassy's Twitter feed.

Israel recaptured east Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount in the Old City, in the 1967 war.

Israel will be the second stop on Trump's first foreign trip, following Saudi Arabia.

Trump is expected to visit Israel on Monday where he will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then travel to Bethlehem the next day for a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas.

Separately, a reported comment by a USA official helping prepare Trump's visit also led to Israeli criticism, with the official allegedly telling Israeli counterparts that the Western Wall was part of the occupied West Bank.

Ron Dermer, Israel's ambassador to the U.S., claimed that moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem "will cause [Palestine] to understand that Israel will be here forever with Jerusalem as its capital", cited by the Times of Israel.

"We were shocked to announce that the western wall is located in a West Bank area", the Netanyahu office official said.

Israeli media outlet Walla! reported later that the White House tried to distance itself from the comments, saying that it did not reflect the position of the U.S. or of the President. Ambassador David Friedman, a NY attorney who has handled President Trump's bankruptcy issues for years, survived a grueling confirmation process that became sensationalized over remarks the politically right-wing Friedman had made regarding left-wing Jews.

The White House on Monday told The Time of Israel the comments by the official were "unauthorised" and did not represent Trump's policy. McMaster only said that the matter was a "policy decision". It is Judaism's holiest religious site.

Israel's right-wing had placed high hopes in Trump's presidency following his pledges of ardent support for Israel and a commitment to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to the disputed city of Jerusalem.

Congress recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in 1995, but presidents for decades have treated the status of Jerusalem as unresolved.

Observers and analysts, however, have noted a change in the post-election rhetoric of the Trump administration regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Palestinians see it as the capital of a future independent state.

Several previous USA presidents have promised to move the embassy to Jerusalem, but none have followed through on the pledge.

The Brody File will be traveling with President Trump on his overseas trip starting this Friday. He'll be the first sitting United States president to make a stop at the site.
