South Korean President Moon Jae In on Tuesday (June 13) nominated a veteran government official with long experience in handling ties with North Korea as his new unification minister.

Rodman has received the red-carpet treatment on four past trips since 2013, but has been roundly criticized for visiting during a time of high tensions between the USA and North Korea over its weapons programs. South Korea has for sometime now been weighing up its chances in preparing a bid for the tournament, but has shown a desire to partner with a neighbouring country to split the costs and the tournament.

The ability of the USA -made Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) to protect against missile.

Even South Korean-Japanese relations aren't particularly positive, amid an ongoing dispute between Seoul and Tokyo over so-called "comfort women" held by the Japanese imperial army during World War II. "For a peace treaty, the first thing we need to do is to recognise North Korea as an independent country", Kim told participants.

Former National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman is expected to arrive in North Korea on Tuesday for a trip the State Department said was not an official US visit, CNN reported on Monday.

Footballing culture is strong in the two Koreas.

Speaking at the Federation Internationale de Football Association meeting Monday, Moon said sport could play a role in easing tensions in the region.

Infantino was quoted as saying he respects Moon's idea and that he will talk to Chinese President Xi Jinping about it when the two meet later this week.

Moon said Japan should look squarely at the comfort women issue and that both countries should understand more time is needed for this issue.

There are already concerns about the hosts of the next two World Cups - Russia and Qatar - over the dangers posed to travelling fans.

From a logistical standpoint, it would be one of the easiest ways to host a World Cup as all the infrastructrue required to run a tournament exists with South Korea, China and Japan to run a World Cup in their own right.

Any visit to North Korea by a high-profile American is a political minefield, and Rodman has been criticized for failing to use his influence on leaders who are otherwise isolated diplomatically from the rest of the world.
