"It doesn't make sense to me, not with this shooting and not with blaming an entire Black Lives Matter movement when a random black man shoots a police officer", said Shaun King, a columnist for the New York Daily News who campaigned for Sanders.

The GOP lawmakers' team was taking batting practice when gunshots rang out and chaos erupted.

Congressman Rodney Davis told CNN he was at the plate at the time, and Scalise was in the field at second base. Rep. Mo Brooks, an Alabama Republican, said his colleague "crawled into the outfield, leaving a trail of blood".

The teenager's mother entered the fray, hitting her daughter, pulling her hair to get her out of the auto and threatening to put her back into foster care, the report said.
