The trio returned to the big screen for last year's "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens", and she had a CGI-enhanced cameo in this month's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".

The Los Angeles County coroner says actress Carrie Fisher died of sleep apnea and other undetermined factors. At first Fisher's cause of death was listed on her death certificate as cardiac arrest, with a memo note mentioned that at the time the coroner could not conclusively determine the cause without a full-fledged autopsy.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office conducted an examination of her body on December.

The actress - who catapulted to worldwide stardom as rebel warrior Princess Leia in the original "Star Wars" trilogy - suffered a medical emergency on a transatlantic flight in late December. But, on December 27, the actress passed away which caused some confusion and doubt for her family.

Her mother and fellow Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds died a day later, after being rushed to hospital, aged 84.

"I would tell you, from my perspective that there's certainly no news that Carrie did drugs", he continued.

"My mum battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life".

Fisher also had atherosclerotic heart disease and had used drugs, the statement said, but noted the significance of these factors in relation to her demise had not been ascertained.

'I am not shocked that part of her health was affected by drugs, ' Todd Fisher said.

Fisher had always been open about her struggle with bipolar disorder and substance abuse issues, starting at only age 13 when she began smoking marijuana. "Love you Momby", she added.

They, however, said investigators were not able to determine an exact cause.

'They were doing their best to cure a mental disorder. "Can you really blame them?" he said.
