Warmbier returned to the USA last week after being imprisoned for 17 months in North Korea, but was revealed to be in a coma shortly after news of his release emerged. Warmbier, an American college student who was released by North Korea in a com.

He had severe brain damage and was sent from North Korea on 13 June to a hospital in his home city of Cincinnati where he died.

The coroner's office in Hamilton County, Ohio, said it had accepted Warmbier's case but had only performed an external examination on his body because the family had objected to an autopsy. Justin Weber told The Associated Press on Tuesday morning that a press conference is expected later to provide details.

Following the death of Otto Warmbier, a UVA student who was the victim of political retribution by North Korea, 5th District Congressman Tom Garrett slammed the Kim Administration and called for increased sanctions, effective immediately. Doctors say he has suffered a severe brain injury.

"All those that wish to join his family in celebrating his life are cordially invited", said the Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum. He arrived in OH on June 13 after being held for more than 17 months.

Shortly before he was freed, his parents told the Washington Post newspaper they had been informed by the North Korean authorities that their son had contracted botulism, a rare illness that causes paralysis, soon after his trial.

North Korea must bear "heavy responsibility" for Warmbier's death, said South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Mr Geng said the meeting would be an opportunity for the two countries to have an "in-depth exchange of views" on issues including North Korea, the South China Sea and cooperation on counter-terrorism.

Ned Price, former National Security Council spokesman under Obama, responded to Trump saying the Obama administration "had no higher priority than securing the release of Americans detained overseas".

It was unclear whether his remark represented a significant shift in his thinking in the USA struggle to stop North Korea's nuclear program and its test launching of missiles or a change in US policy toward China.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in says North Korea must bear "heavy responsibility" for the death of a 22-year-old USA college student it detained for almost a year and a half.

Analysts said anger over Warmbier's death would dim, if not scuttle, any prospect of a less antagonistic relationship in the near future between Washington and Pyongyang, which is still holding three other Americans. In the House, lawmakers lined up behind legislation ordering the Treasury Department to prohibit all financial transactions related to travel to North Korea by Americans, unless specifically authorized by a US license.
