Rep. Steve Scalise's Condition Upgraded To 'Fair' After Baseball Field Shooting

A hospital news release said Scalise "continues an extended period of healing and rehabilitation".

"The American Hospital Association says a person is in fair condition when the vital signs are stable and within normal limits; the patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable; and indicators are favorable".

A storage locker rented by Hodgkinson in Alexandria, Virginia, was found to hold "a laptop computer, more than 200 rounds of ammunition, a receipt for a November 2016 gun purchase and additional SKS rifle components".

The man who fired on GOP lawmakers at baseball practice had a list of six congressmen on him, and kept the modified rifle he used in a storage unit he often visited, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

Still, Slater said that there is no evidence that the gunman had advance knowledge that the lawmakers would be practicing there or that he was specifically targeting any of those involved in the practice.

Hodgkinson was shot multiple times in the torso, and later died at a hospital.

A lobbyist, a congressional aide and a U.S. Capitol Police officer were also shot in the incident. He also visited the office of Sen. "No context was included on this paper, however, a review of Hodgkinson's web searches in the months prior to the shooting revealed only a cursory search of two of those Members of Congress", they said.

Scalise, R-La., is the No. 3 House Republican, the "whip" responsible for counting votes and getting lawmakers to cast votes. Previous medical reports indicated that Scalise sustained a single gunshot wound to his left hip and suffered "significant damage" to his internal organs. Doctors said Scalise was near death when he arrived at the hospital.

Scalise and other congressional Republicans were practicing for their annual charity baseball game against Democrats when a gunman started shooting.

The four others shot by the gunman last week have been steadily recovering. Rep. Patrick McHenry, a North Carolina Republican who is filling in as whip, is hosting a two-day blood drive, which ends on Thursday. Another U.S. Capitol Police officer was struck by shrapnel and Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, injured his ankle while helping others take cover.

Some signs suggest that Hodgkinson might not have known about the daily GOP practices ahead of this year's Congressional Baseball Game.
