The I-45 just outside of Dallas was shut down this morning after an 18-wheeler truck crash that spilled its load of hogs out on the highway.

Both directions of I-45 were closed between Pleasant Run Road and Belt Line Road at about 6:45 a.m.

Law enforcement officials spent the next several hours rounding up dozens of pigs.

Pigs made their way out of a crashed tractor-trailer and onto a Dallas-area interstate, with some going as far as a half-mile away before responders started to corral them. The driver was not hurt, local media reported.

It is not known if any of the pigs were injured in the crash. It's unclear whether any pigs were injured.

Photos and video from the scene showed livestock handlers trying to corral the hogs trotting along the interstate and rescue the animals left in the trailer.

It flipped over onto its side and later caught fire. "We do not know how many dead-loss or how many ran off", Wilmer Police Department Lt. Eric Pon told KTVT.

There's no word on what caused the crash.
