Kerber After Nasty Fall

After her heavy fall in the quarter-final, Johanna Konta withdrew from her Aegon International semi-final with a thoracic-spinal injury.

The 26-year-old British player's win was her first victory over a World No. 1, and it pads her Wimbledon resume. Wozniacki will face Heather Watson in the other semifinal.

World No7 Konta converted her fourth match point to prevail 6-3, 6-4 but not before a stoppage of nearly 10 minutes which saw the 26-year-old receive treatment following an awkward fall on the baseline.

Speaking after her win over Kerber, Konta said: "I slipped and hit my head and it's a bit sore". Next week is Wimbledon but I make decisions for my health. They swooped Djokovic on court and at 4-3 in the second he shouted: "Okay, I hear you." as they squawked above centre court.

"I'm just happy that I was able to make it two out of two. Things will become clearer in the next 24 hours of how we manage things".

Konta, who will play her first match on Monday, is in what appears to be the stronger half of the draw. Konta won a fourth match point and was hugely relieved to see the German dump a backhand into the net.

"Against a player like her who has such a big game, sometimes it's hard to accept that you haven't got much say in some points".

Konta will assess her Wimbledon prospects after a day of rest.

"It could have gone both ways", Wozniacki said after the match.

The third-seeded Pliskova dispatched two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-4 in her quarterfinal.

When play was halted for the day, No. 2-seeded Simona Halep of Romania found herself in trouble.

"It's going to be a tough match".

"I'm going to prepare the best I can for it and most importantly recover as quick as I can after this round and just really enjoy the fact that I've got another match today", she said. That's a small advantage, but at the same time, I'm just excited to be in another finals this year.

Bellis will be more than game to take on former No.1 Azarenka, who showed equal signs of form and rust in her first tournament in 11 months after her break to have a child.
