OH sees cheaper prices for Fourth of July

Some 37.5 million Americans will drive to their destinations, an increase of 2.9 percent over last year, AAA predicted, while 3.44 million people will be flying for Independence Day, increasing air travel by 4.6 percent over last year.

Gas prices in MI continue to buck the historical summertime upward trend, falling 6-cents a gallon this week to a statewide average of $2.29.

During the 2017 Independence Day holiday period (June 30 to July 4) a record 44.2 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home, according to a recent AAA forecast. So watch those gas tax changes when you cross state lines.

The cheapest gas on average is in South Carolina, Oklahoma and Indiana. Today, consumers can find gas for $2.00 or less at one out of every four gas stations in the country. "Yet gas prices on the West Coast continue to be the most expensive in the country: Hawaii, $3.05, California, $2.94, and Alaska, $.2.84".

But wholesale gasoline prices have already started to climb up, and that will probably translate into modestly higher prices at the pump in coming days, said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, which tracks gas prices for AAA.

The last time the average has been this cheap was in 2005, according to AAA Northeast.

While the decline in active rigs might signal that USA production may be headed for a new trend, which could lead to a degree of tightening between supply of oil and demand for refined products, the US oil rig count is still up by 415 when compared to the count past year at this time. Kansas' average gas price registers 11th lowest in the nation.
