July marks the first year since Pokemon Go was released and made unbelievable waves in the mobile gaming and augmented reality industry.

Niantic's John Hanke, in an interview about the game's first year, says that Pokemon GO after one year is about a six months behind the original plan for the game. It has recently been learned that Pokémon GO has raised more than $ 1.2 billion in profits.

Pokémon Go has celebrated events with special Pikachus in the past, like when their was a Santa hat-wearing Pikachu over the holidays, so this one-year anniversary Pikachu will give collectors another reason to go out and hunt. Developer Niantic has not forgotten that fact either, and wants to reward its loyal players with some special goodies in honor of the game's first birthday.

These anniversary boxes include Incubators, Max Revivesm Ultra Balls and Raid Passes.

This event is considered an anniversary event, and it starts at 1 pm PT today. That's plenty of time for players to try their hand at catching the iconic looking Pikachu and stocking up on plenty of important consumables. While Niantic has yet to confirm if any such event is supposed to take place, the timing certainly makes the possibility seem more likely. It remains to be seen how hard it will be to catch him, so make sure you're fully stocked before you go hunting.

Chester will play host to Pokémon GO Trainers visiting the United Kingdom from around the world, turning historical sites into PokéStops that players can interact with.
