The lone defeat came against the Panamanian team in 2011, and the last four matches between the nations have ended in 1-1 ties. "We want to continue to build on what we started in January and improve the program". A record 47,662 fans watched team U.S. play Panama Saturday at Gold Cup match inside Nissan Stadium. The countries are divided into three groups of four. While they are significantly smaller, the use of them assures sold out crowds to show off on TV and help increase the usage and public's general knowledge of the soccer-specific stadiums in the U.S. and Canada.

"If we can get some success in NY, it will provide us a good platform to get as many points out of the last two group games as possible". The top two teams from each group, along with two best third-place teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

And with the toughest game of the group stage against Panama being played first, it's hard not to see the USA doing well at this edition of the Gold Cup. But the U.S.is not taking anything for granted.

Tonight, the tournament will kick off with a doubleheader, with French Guiana facing Canada in the opener, followed by a match between Honduras and Costa Rica. Yes, for the fourth time running in meeting in global tournament play, each walked away with a single goal and a single point each.

Mexico was in an interesting place when the 2013 Gold Cup rolled up: just one win in its first five 2014 World Cup qualifiers, just two victories in the 11 preceding matches since New Years. A showdown with the United States at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on July 26th is highly likely.

Mexico sent their strongest team to the recently completed Confederations Cup.

All of the players except for Erick Torres (Houston Dynamo) are based in Mexico.

Curacao, El Salvador, Jamaica and defending champions Mexico are featured in Group C. They are now in very good shape in World Cup Qualifying - their only loss has come against Mexico.

Having the Gold Cup every two years is exhausting for FAs, players and fans, and half of the Gold Cup winners have not been able to claim their prize in the Confederations Cup (which is played less than a month before the Gold Cup). "We have a bunch of good teams here".

McCarty, who debuted for the U.S.in November 2009, had made seven appearances in exhibitions. United States of America will now attempt to gain psychological advantage over Los Canaleros by winning the Gold Cup clash, but that is not going to be an easy task. "It's not just the senior team but the whole mindset of how Canada is preparing for big tournaments and where the resources are placed and where the priorities lie". The change was tough at first, but I think now that I'm settled in, I think it's been fantastic for myself and my family.
