A suicide bomber riding on a motorcycle struck a vehicle carrying a police chief in the southwestern Pakistani town of Chaman near the Afghan border on Monday, killing the officer, his guard and a civilian, a government official said.

Earlier, the deceased DPO was shifted to hospital after getting severely injured in the blast but he succumbed to his injuries.

SSP Sajid Khan Mohmand was martyred in a terrorist attack after his convoy was targeted with an explosive device on Boghra Road of the city on Monday. Emergency has been declared in hospitals.

Authorities have retrieved body parts of the suspected attacker from the site but have not yet made a final determination on the nature of the attack. But the remnants of militant groups are still able to carry out periodic bloody attacks, particularly in the northwest.
