'GST Rate Finder' App launched by Government to check New Rates

This is to check the prevalent practice of companies giving expensive gifts to their staff to boost business or to pay their staff in ways different from regular remuneration in order to evade taxes.

GST Rate Finder app of CBEC is available on google play store. ioS version will be launched shortly.

It can be downloaded on any smartphone phone and works in offline mode as well.

The search will immediately list all the goods and services containing the name which has been typed in the search box.

Addressing a conference on the new tax regime in Chennai this morning, Mr Naidu said, it is historic that the power to decide on taxes has been transferred from the Legislature to the GST Council that is represented by both the Centre and the states. "The tax incidence on this item before and after GST is the same or less", a finance ministry statement said.


Showing concern on the possible impact on Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed by the Indian government, a high level government team is holding talks with the Indian government officials on Tuesday. "No distinction shall be made which is based on the flag of vessels, the place of origin, departure, entry and exit destination or ownership of goods", reads the bilateral treaty. Furthermore, the app is developed by National Informatics Center, India and offered by NIC India Board of Exercise and Customs (CBEC).

"GST will help us in the long run and honest taxpayers and common people need not worry", he said. Bringing the country under a uniform tax regime, GST is expected to add 2 per cent to India's GDP (gross domestic product).

Finance Ministry clarified that perks, like housing and such, provided to employees in accordance to the agreement they entered when taking the job will not be covered under GST. At the portal, a taxpayer can search for applicable CGST, SGST, UTGST rate and the Compensation Cess on a particular supply.

It also contains the description of goods or services and the chapter heading of the Harmonised System of Nomenclature (HSN).
