A portrait of slain New York police officer Miosotis Familia is placed on a podium before a tribute in her honor at the New York police department's 46th Precinct in the Bronx borough of New York, Saturday, July 8, 2017. Her sister couldn't come to words, telling the crowd office Familia was a good person. Her funeral service will be held there Tuesday.

The NYPD had initially planned to retrofit only patrol cars with ballistic panels and bullet-resistant glass, but after the killing of Familia - a single mother of three - the department made a decision to safeguard the mobile command centers as well.

There will be two Monday afternoon viewings for Officer Familia, 48.

Miosotis Familia was a 12-year veteran of the force and a mother of three. She was [an] especially warm and erudite woman who fiercely loved her children and went to work every day proud to do her job, to protect us.

The wake for Officer Familia will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The cowardly thug who stole it from her appears to have targeted her simply for being a police officer.

On Friday, Familia's oldest daughter, Genesis Villella, 20, released a statement, "She was incredibly amusing". She said he had paranoid schizophrenia, and a search of his home after the shooting found medication, but it is unknown if he had been taking them.
