Gymboree, Crazy 8 stores to close in Arizona among company restructuring

Based in San Francisco, the company said closing sales began Tuesday in the stores.

No word on the exact date the stores will be closing.

The bankruptcy was widely expected after Gymboree refused to pay some of its bills in recent months, placing the retailer on a collision course with creditors.

Analysts have expected, and insiders have hinted, that Gymboree would likely target its insane 8 and Gymboree brands as it looks to shrink its store footprint.

The closures in North Texas include four Gymboree stores- at the Collin Creek Mall, in Preston Park and at the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano and at the Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville. One of the stores set to close is the Gymboree store at SouthPointe Pavilions mall at 27th Street and Pine Lake Road. Those locations include Janie and Jack stores as well as insane 8 shops.

The Fargo location is one of 350-outlets the company is shutting down. A news release said it will focus its resources on its more than 900 remaining stores "with the greatest potential and improve the profitability of the overall business". Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Evansville, Indiana's locations, however, are on the closing list.

The company said the affected stores were chosen "following a comprehensive evaluation of its retail footprint".

Like other retailers, Gymboree buckled amid declining mall traffic, fixed rental costs and online competition.
