But several long time favorites are likely to be nominated again including HBO's political comedy Veep and its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Unstructured Reality Program: "Born This Way"; "Deadliest Catch"; "Gaycation With Ellen Page"; "Intervention"; "RuPaul's Drag Race"; "United Shades of America With W. Kamau Bell".

Breaking news from the land of television: Three local actresses have been nominated for Emmys. Ewan McGregor was nominated in the best actor category for "Fargo", while Riz Ahmed and John Turturro were nominated for HBO's "The Night Of". NBC was third with 60, followed by FX with 54.

Leading the nominations in totals by platform were premium cable network HBO (110), streaming powerhouse Netflix (91) and traditional network NBC (60). Head down to the comments to talk about (depending on how far through the event we are) who you're hoping lands a nomination, who was egregiously wronged by not getting a nomination (inevitably, after all the great TV we've had over the past year), or who among the final nominees deserves to win the award in September. Even with Game of Thrones out of contention, no one is surprised when HBO leads the Emmy nominations pack.

The 2017 Emmy Awards will be hosted by Stephen Colbert on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET, on CBS.

The outstanding drama series category includes five first-time nominees-"The Crown", "Stranger Things", "The Handmaid's Tale", "This is Us" and "Westworld". Other big-screen stars making a splash on the small screen were Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, nominated for "Big Little Lies", which is competing with "Feud" for best limited series.

Netflix has three series among the seven on the list for Best Drama, an extraordinary showing. Better Call Saul's Michael McKean was left out of the drama supporting actor category.

On the comedy side, HBO's Veep and Silicon Valley, ABC's Modern Family and Black-ish, Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Master of None, and FX's Atlanta will vie for the top trophy.

As a effect, "This is Us" was joined by HBO's "Westworld" (tied with "SNL" overall for the most nominations); Netflix's "Stranger Things" and "The Crown;" and Hulu's breakthrough "The Handmaid's Tale" in freshening up the drama category.

Notable genre snubs included The Leftovers, which only got one nomination (Ann Dowd, also for Guest Actress in a Drama Series), Marvel's Netflix suite (a Stunt Coordination nod for Luke Cage) and Legion, which got a big ol' goose egg.
