The Santa Blanca Cartel in Bolivia has fallen, and now players will be tasked with keeping Special Ops forces from getting a new foothold in the country in a new PvP mode for Ghost Recon: Wildlands called Ghost War.

Ghost Recon Wildlands players will soon have the opportunity to turn their firearms toward a new enemy: Other players. It'll be on all platforms, and the mode will be in a free update for the third-person shooter later this fall. Players will choose from a variety of specialized classes, including Scout, Sniper, and Tank among many others.

No, Ubisoft isn't adding in Dark Souls-style squad invasions for when you and your buddies are roaming the open world (that's what Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is for). Istrate cautions that "all of these elements will make team play, communication, and strategic skills more crucial than ever". Each class will also take advantage of new PvP mechanics such as suppressing fire and sound markers. Ghost War will reportedly sport large maps that challenge players to contend with unsafe terrain and weather conditions in addition to enemy players. A 4v4 team deathmatch open beta will take place this summer, and then the full mode will launch this fall as a free update. Further details on Ghost War's classes are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks, so those interested will have to stay tuned.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
