On Monday, the Patna High Court dismissed PILs filed by RJD MLAs Saroj Yadav and Chandan Verma and another PIL by Samajwadi Party member Jitendra Kumar challenging the formation of the new government by Nitish's JD (U) along with the BJP.

Amid the new-found bonhomie between Kumar and Modi, other JD (U) leaders have also said that the decision to break away from the mahagathbandhan - grand alliance - in Bihar came as a surprise to them. I don't agree with the decision taken in Bihar.

He said the developments surrounding Lalu Yadav and his kin including Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav relating to disproportionate assets had raised questions about his own stand of "zero tolerance" against corruption. "Now I have a feeling that they did not have a proper answer", Kumar said.

According to an NDTV report, Mr Yadav also said: "The mandate by the people was not for this". "My role in national politics will be confined to serving one of the bigger states of the country", said Kumar. Calling Kumar an "opportunist" and "Paltu Ram" (turncoat), he said, even if Tejaswi had tendered his resignation the JD (U) leader would have gone ahead with his plan to split the alliance.

Senior RJD leader and former party MP Jagdanand Singh played a video clip in which Radhe Shyam Singh, brother of Sitaram Singh who was killed in November 1991 during the Barh Lok Sabha by-poll allegedly by Mr. Nitish Kumar and others, is heard describing the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bid to retain power in 2019 looks stronger than ever, with the BJP now reigning over the north, west and the east, quite the way the Congress did in its heyday. "Had they done that, the situation could have been different", Bihar CM said.

He said he met his party legislators on July 11 and said the party should not deviate from its policies and made a decision to request Tejashwi Yadav to explain the corruption charges levelled against him.

"We are not being rebellious, by meeting Sharad Yadav". "In his trademark style, he said there are some rumblings within, I will settle it down".

Lalu further sought to remind Nitish Kumar that it was he who brought Nitish to prominence during the students' agitation in Bihar.

On 27 July, Lalu Prasad Yadav had tweeted the Bihar chief minister's affidavit released at the time he filed his nomination papers.

Yadav was not alone in his diatribe against Kumar.

JD (U) president, Sharad Yadav and Kumar's senior colleague, called that decision "unfortunate" in his first reaction on the matter on Monday.
