And co-star John Boyega, who plays former stormtrooper Finn, promises that the send-off is one that honors Fisher's "Star Wars "legacy".

This will be Thorne's first introduction to the Star Wars universe, a detail that might perk up the ears of detail-attuned fans.

'That's the beauty of it: She lives forever in a sense, ' he said.

The 25-year-old Londoner added that he was away in Nigeria when he heard the sad news, and he admits it was a "strange, strange feeling" comprehending her passing.

Thorne, for instance, has written for shows like Skins and the British version of Shameless, which paved the way for the popular Showtime series.

The actor also revealed that he will have quite a lot of screen time with Fisher in The Last Jedi. Said movie was so bad, critics not only found to be terribly written and directed, but had many questioning Trevorrow's attitudes towards female characters, his overall judgement as to what makes a good story, and if he was even fit to take on something like Star Wars. Also, fans may just be wondering how Luke and Rey's relationship will progress and/or how are they tied together.

Boyega said though Fisher is no longer in the films, she and her character are not necessarily wiped from the future of Star Wars.

The Last Jedi lands in theaters December 15.

To us, she'll always be royalty.

Here's a behind the scenes look at the upcoming movie.

After Fisher died, Kennedy confirmed Princess Leia would not feature at all in Episode IX. 'You guys are going to find it an amazing tribute to her talent'.

It's reminiscent of shakeups during the production of Rogue One, as well as the recent, mid-shooting swap of directors on the Han Solo movie, although fixing issues during pre-production has a much better chance of smoothly fixing any issues.
