Arsenal Outnumber Chelsea By a Wide Margin on Community Shield Team Sheet

Arsenal start with summer signing Alexandre Lacazette up-front, but there's no place for Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil in the matchday squad.

Arsene Wenger hopes Arsenal can take confidence from their Community Shield win over Chelsea and avoid another bad start to their Premier League season against Leicester on Friday.

Arsenal's shootout victory means the FA Cup winning side have now won the last four editions of the Community Shield, with the Gunners responsible for three of those.

Morata, and Conte, will take solace from the fact that the last team to win the Premier League title after winning the Community Shield were Manchester United back in 2010.

Chelsea had Pedro dismissed for an untidy lunge on Mohamed Elneny 82 seconds before Kolasinac converted Granit Xhaka's cross, but Wenger felt an Arsenal leveller had always been on the cards, irrespective of any numerical advantage.

I would like that they stand behind the team as we might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods. We had some hard moments at the start of the second half but after that we dominated.

In the match itself, Victor Moses, sent off when the Blues lost the FA Cup final to Arsenal in May, struck early in the second half with what looked like it would be the winner.

"If you look at the Premier League there are ten teams that can win it - we need to maintain our togetherness".

"We were 1-0 down and we came back to add to the continuity of our game last season".

"I didn't see the situation with the sending off".

"A lot of people have told me that the penalty was clear so there is frustration but we have to respect the referee's decision".

"This is the second game, after the FA Cup, that we finish with 10 men", Conte fumed.

The Blues appeared to be closing in on victory as new signings Morata and Antonio Rudiger were handed late debuts from the substitutes' bench, but the match turned when Pedro was shown a straight red card for bringing down Elneny with his studs raised from behind.

"We might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods".

The first was referee Robert Madley's decision to book winger Willian for an alleged dive despite replays suggesting he was clipped by Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin with the scores still goalless.

Kolasinac became the first player to open his goalscoring account for Arsenal in the Community Shield since Gilberto Silva in 2002.

Asked about Costa, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte replied: "I have already replied to this question".

Thirteen of the 25 winners of the Premier League since 1992 have been teams who started the same season by contesting the Community Shield.

Defending champions Chelsea meet Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (15:00).
