The party said the MLAs were attending "classes" on the history of the Congress and the "lies of the BJP". Both Amit Shah and Smriti Irani bagged 46 votes each.

Ahmed Patel, the political advisor to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, is seeking a fifth Rajya Sabha term but his chances of re-election are bleak, predicted Vaghela.

In the event cancellation of the two votes happen, the total number of votes will come down to 174 from 176. The party will take the final call on Tuesday, said NCP leader Praful Patel. "Congress is making baseless allegations since morning", Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Gandhinagar: It's old war horse Shankersinh Vaghela, who holds the scales in a decisive arena, as the two principal rivals - Congres and BJP - lock horns on Ahmed Patel's re-entry bid to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat on Tuesday.

"It is not by any means beyond any doubt that all the 44 MLAs of the Congress will vote in favor of a similar individual, they may likewise do cross voting".

Speaking to the media on Monday, Jadeja said that he was going to vote for BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls.

"Not all 44 have voted for him, just wait and watch", a leader close to Vaghela said.

Expressing sorrow for not voting for Patel, Vaghela further said the Congress party shouldn't have put the reputation of the former on stake, when the party knew that their MLAs were resigning. Immediately, after the visit of the high-profile BJP team, Congress heavyweight P Chidambaram led another delegation to the EC. Later, Shaktisinh Gohil and Arjun Modhwadia of the Congress and State BJP president Jitu Vaghani viewed the videography of polling.

"There is enough evidence that the ballot paper were seen by people other than those authorized. BJP was beneficiary of this law on June 11, 2016". The party has 31 extra votes after securing two Rajya Sabha seats and is short of 14 votes to win the third seat.

The senior leaders were attending the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, where party president Sonia Gandhi urged them to fight the "all-powerful" adversary. The family members of the legislators were also brought to the resort to enable them to celebrate "raksha bandhan".

The Congress has the support of 51 lawmakers along with seven from the Shankarinh Vaghela camp.

Ahmed Patel is now counting on the support of the remaining 44 MLAs who were taken to a Bengaluru resort as the party feared that the BJP will try to poach them ahead of Rajya Sabha elections.

Each of the four candidates contesting the elections in Gujarat has to win 45 first preference votes.
