Rafa Benitez 'unhappy' with Newcastle's transfer window

Fenerbahce and Newcastle have both expressed an interest in signing Perez but it is Deportivo that made a formal offer of £9m plus £1.8m in bonuses.

Rafa Benitez subsequently opted to activate the permanent-purchase clause in his contract and Atsu signed for £6.5million in May. "I said, 'Listen, we have to talk.' He said, 'Listen, you have some money?' I like the player but it's too soon to talk about that". We know what we need (in the transfer market) and we will try to do this until the end of the window. But as is the case for many young footballers making their way through Chelsea's system, breaking into the first team proved to be a hard task.

The Brazil Under-20 worldwide, who has been at Stamford Bridge since 2015, has failed to nail down a regular first-team position, making just 15 league appearances for the Blues.

And Benitez, who has injury concerns over striker Dwight Gayle ahead of Newcastle's first league match at home to Tottenham on Sunday, has targeted former Deportivo La Coruna attacker Perez as a potential addition to his forward options.

"We know every game is hard and now we are going to play against Tottenham, so we just need to keep our focus and prepare for every game", Atsu added. "The story is as I said before", said Benitez.

"I am not happy but at the same time for me it's a challenge", Benitez said on Sky Sports.

"I like the player because I have good friends in A Coruña", Benitez was quoted as saying by the Chronicle after the 2-0 win over Hellas Verona. Every manager wants to improve and have better players, but at the same time, I am happy with the players I have because the team spirit was good last season and hopefully we can replicate that.

"It all depends on Arsenal now but we could be happy to join Fenerbahce".
