The parliament seat fell vacant after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif in Supreme Court Panama case verdict in July.

"Nawaz Sharif's lions have defeated you in the elections in Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan besides local government and cantonment board elections in recent years", Kirmani said while speaking to media and party workers after filing the nomination papers.

The polling for the election will be held on September 17.

Addressing a big gathering at Gujranwala city on his rally to Lahore, 67-year-old Sharif asked his supporters to pledge to come out on the roads with him to ensure the elected prime ministers of Pakistan are not humiliated anymore.

Nawaz said he had presented his case in the court of people, as they had made him the prime minister.

According to the schedule of Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), Sharif is expected to spend the night in Gujranwala.

A defiant Nawaz Sharif criticised on Thursday the judiciary for forcing him to quit as prime minister, saying it was an "insult" to 200 million people of Pakistan that their elected leader was unceremoniously ousted with a single stroke of pen.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid, who had challenged Nawaz Sharif in last general elections but was defeated, also filed her nomination papers from her party's platform in the ECP office on Friday.

Supporters chanted "prime minister Nawaz Sharif" and danced to songs praising his party as the former leader addressed the crowd from a makeshift stage behind bulletproof glass.

Yesterday, Nawaz Sharif said he has been ousted from the office but he remains in the hearts of the people. "There are no allegations of corruption against me". "I need your support to ensure respect of the people's vote and civilian supremacy", he said.

Sharif, who could not complete his term for a third time, also asked the gathering, "Should I sit back and accept the verdict or fight the injustice?"

Nawaz Sharif made Pakistan a nuclear power, he said adding Nawaz Sharif was protector of jobs of the youth. Someone tell me why I was ousted. Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has finalised Faisal Mir for the contest. "And I will make sure this with the help of masses", he said.

"I am going home and I do not want you to get me restored".
