Beta applications for PS4 firmware 5.0 were taken in July, and just last week, the contents of the beta were acquired early by Eurogamer.

Sony has revealed the new features that will be arriving with the PS4 5.0 system update.

With the update, users can set up as many adults as they want per family to have administration rights over child/sub accounts on their console. We've posted the notes for you below straight from Sony.

The Family on PSN feature will allow families to set up their own PSN accounts for kids with customized parental controls, such as the promotion of adults between accounts to customize children's parental control settings.

All parental controls (including game age ratings) can be individually attuned for each child.

Individual parental controls will also be available.

In place of the current "Favorite Groups" tab, a new "Custom Lists" tab has been added within Friends, which allows you to create and edit custom lists of your friends.

Have a few different groups of friends you play games with?

Communities can now be linked to live gameplay broadcasts, where a community button is added to a broadcast so a viewer can jump to and join your community if wanted. Once a spectator clicks on the community button, they'll be able to jump directly to your community page to check out the details. If you like listening to music on your PS4, you can now share straight to your friends; If they're also on Sony's console, they can pop open the song you sent them in the Quick Menu and listen from there.

Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.

Music can already be shared on PS4 using Twitter and Facebook via Spotify and PlayStation Music, but once the update is applied, individual tracks can be shared by sending a message on message on PS4. Mobile users on the PlayStation Messages app will be sent to Spotify for playback.

The PS4's Update 5.0 also intends to improve notifications when watching films and TV, as the patch enables the ability to disable message and other notification pop-ups while watching media. This setting is set to "off" by default, so go to Settings Notifications to enable it.

Furthermore, you now have the option to turn off message previews on your pop-up notifications. Turning the setting off the pop-up notification will hide the message senders' online ID showing a generic user icon and message instead.

You can also change the colour of the pop-up between white and black.

You can now see more via Quick Menu, such as what's happening under Notifications like the progress of your game downloads or party invites.

Sony is also boosting the Quick Menu, bringing easy access to all notifications.

Virtual surround sound support for 5.1 and 7.1 channels have also arrived for the PlayStation VR.

A new bracket viewer has been added to show full tournament brackets for Single Elimination and Double Elimination tournaments on PS4.
