At the height of the day's solar eclipse in New York, Google finally revealed the name of its latest Android operating system - in honor of another dark disc: the Oreo. Chinese phones have a heavily customized ROM, which makes it harder to push out the latest version of Android to its smartphones.

Android Oreo contains the new "install unknown apps" feature: Those wicked individuals or organisations that proliferate PHAs (Potentially Harmful Apps) have gotten the sneakier and smarter into the fooling the people install them.

As highlighted, Android 8.0 isn't a huge update but it's also not a small update in the grand scheme of things.

Google has also started grouping notifications together by category, in a bid to cut down on countless updates and streamline the way users receive information from messaging services and apps. However, there is no timeline for the K8 Note Android 8.0 rollout yet, as these will depend on chip manufacturer support, internal development and testing requirements, according to Anuj Sharma, Head of Product Marketing - Smartphones, Lenovo India. What it feels like to use Android can vary wildly between devices, since in addition to running different software versions, many include unique interfaces and features. If you're wondering whether your phone is getting the update, we have compiled a list of smartphones that are getting Android Oreo. The company said in a news release, however, that it and Google will partner on a "variety of global initiatives designed to create innovative, playful experiences for both OREO and Android fans". HTC also has confirmed that its recent flagship phones will be updated to Android Oreo. So if you are a Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL users then you will get the Android Oreo Update. So we expect that the update might be rolling out in November December. We will update this list as and when these or other brands announce their release plans.

Over on Twitter, HTC USA announced that it is bringing Android Oreo to the HTC U11, HTC U Ultra, and HTC 10 phone owners not only in Taiwan and the United States but all over the world where the devices are available.

What if you don't have a compatible device?

Recently launched Coolpad Play 6 in India will get the Android Oreo update by December.
