MI surges past Florida, 33-17 in season opener

The Wolverines won the last meeting 41-7 in the Citrus Bowl on January 1, 2016. Florida has a very solid defensive line which can dominate the line of scrimmage and make life hard for the MI offense.

The teams meet Saturday in the Advocare Classic in Arlington, Texas.

Kickoff for the game is 3:30 p.m. ET.

The No. 11 Wolverines blasted the two-time defending SEC East champs behind a ferocious defense that allowed just 192 yards in a 33-17 game that wasn't even that close. But Hoke was just a de facto Michigan Man.

"This whole season, we got something to prove", Bush said. "I just went out there and did what I was supposed to do". "We don't really worry about the rosters".

MI running back Karan Higdon leaps over Florida in the Wolverines' 33-17 win Saturday. The Wolverines should run away with this one.

Ball State: It was a rough finish for the Cardinals, who looked like they might pull this one out.

McElwain released a depth chart Tuesday but it didn't provide an answer when it comes to the starting quarterback.

"The quarterback situation, we have a plan that's in place", McElwain told reporters. Interesting. Yes, we'd like to have that information from them and I'm sure they'd like to have it from us. "We'll leave that for them to guess, as well".

Wilton Speight started at quarterback and sat for two series in the second quarter after the two interceptions and backup John O'Korn took over. But Harbaugh isn't interested in revealing anything related to personnel.

The Wolverines' defensive line should be strong enough to give Florida's quarterback (whoever that may be) a tough time in the pocket. "We'd love to have that information, and so, no, we're not announcing our starting quarterback".

Illinois: The schedule isn't getting any easier, with Western Kentucky - an 11-game victor last season - visiting next week.

Florida figures to once again be stingy on defense.

A season ago, Florida State was thoroughly embarrassed in a 63-20 rout at Louisville, and lost a pair of home games to North Carolina and Clemson by a total of five points.

Michigan's defense was ravaged by departures, creating more opportunity for ballyhooed defensive end Rashan Gary to live up to the hype. While Speight returned and finished out the game, Franks remained on the bench.

"The way I look at it more than anything is, this is going to be a fun event". He mirrored Watson's running ability, taking off for a 47-yard run after all his receivers were covered.

The coach, beginning his third season with the Wolverines, feels the transition has been smooth and he sees the chemistry developing. For that reason, I will take MI winning this game by about a touchdown or so in what should be a low scoring game. That's been especially good. So I shared that with the team last night. "I like the way they worked". Del Rio had 1,358 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions in guiding the Gators to a 5-1 record (while they went 4-3 without him).

Though the Gators aren't tipping their hand per their starter, there has been a level of optimism due to how well the three candidates have practiced in August. "Now, we're going into the game, got business to take care of and I have to lead the team".

Here are three things to know about the game and what it means for both MI and Florida moving forward in 2017. If the Wolverines can display the solid defense and variety on offense that led them to the New Years Six and the Capital One Orange Bowl last year, then they can make a signifcant statement to the rest of the country with a win over Florida tomorrow.
