Before long, it was 28-21 after Dormady completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Callaway.

With Jennings potentially sidelined for most of the season, Callaway and sophomore Brandon Johnson figure to get the bulk of playing time as Tennessee's top two wide receivers.

Quinten Dormady started at quarterback for Tennessee. Every time a member of his defense causes a turnover, that player has to take the ball and dunk it in a trash can.

(9:19 - 3rd) TaQuon Marshall 1 yard touchdown run.

For his effort, Daniel was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week by the Augusta (Georgia) Sports Council.

"So, that's what we went out and did", he said.

"I don't think I've ever been in a game where you run 96 plays and have 655 yards and lose", Tech coach Paul Johnson said bluntly.

The lack of pass rush allowed the Vols to target cornerback Step Durham, who was badly beaten on a Marquez Callaway touchdown catch. "We are very proud of him and what he has achieved", said Ironside. "We found out about our will to win". The big play on the drive was a 44-yard pass from Marshall to Ricky Jeune.

Tennessee went into overtime for the second-consecutive season opener. It was luck with a few people who played awesome.

The Yellow Jackets' offense is always methodical, and that was on full display late in the first half.

First, it was a blowout for Georgia Tech, and then the game was tied out of nowhere at the end of regulation. That was the way things stood at the half.

Heavy's Pick: Tennessee 27 Georgia Tech 21.

Quarterback TaQuon Marshall was better than anyone could have reasonably hoped.

Here are three takeaways from the Volunteers' last-second win over the Yellow Jackets.

It appeared Tech was ready to add to their lead on its next possession when former Knoxville West standout Nathan Cottrell broke off a 38 yard run to the Tennessee 47.

Georgia Tech misses Harrison Butker terribly. But a comment made August 21 reflected uncertainty. He also made a number of nice throws in this contest, including a 42-yard strike to Qua Searcy to set up a Jackets touchdown.

Over on the Georgia Tech side, they are sitting at 0-1 after a wild 42-41 loss to Tennessee that took two overtimes to decide. The team was getting steamrolled on defense and needing three quarters to find anything resembling an offense. The first half ended in an hour and thirty minutes.

Georgia Tech spent most of the evening with its offense on the field, trampling a Tennessee defense that spent six months preparing for an offense it had no chance of stopping. Davis won the job from Brenton King, a highly recruited freshman who has been dealing with a groin injury.

"I'm grinding horse feed essentially", said Bain. "In the locker room, he got the biggest cheer and respect from our players".

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, there are four Georgia Tech quarterbacks fighting for the position.

Both teams scored in their possessions in the first overtime.

When the Tennessee offense had to come up with plays and scores with the game on the line, Callaway came through.

Marshall scored once again from 13 yards out and head coach Paul Johnson called timeout to draw up the 2-point conversion.

While the game is technically a neutral site contest, it is being played at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta, just miles away from the Georgia Tech campus.
