Terror funding case: NIA raids houses of two separatists in Kashmir

The NIA on Thursday raided the house of senior separatist leader and Shia cleric Syed Agha Hassan in Badgam as well as the houses of other separatist leaders and their aides in the valley as part of its probe into the terror funding case.

Earlier today, NIA raided Hurriyat leader Aga Hassan's residence in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam.

The NIA sleuths earlier during the day on Wednesday conducted raids at 27 locations in Srinagar, Delhi and Gurugram in a follow up to similar raids conducted and arrests made during the past couple of weeks.

The agency had in July arrested seven pro-freedom leaders and a prominent local businessman in connection with the probe into the funding case.

"During searches, FD worth over Rs one crore and lots of incriminating material, suspect financial records, property related documents and electronic devices have been seized", said the NIA press release.

Besides, he said, "houses of close aides of Shabir Ahmad Shah including Zameer Sheikh (Srinagar) and Razzaq Choudhary (Jammu) were searched".


In Srinagar, another NIA team raided the joint house of JKLF leader and one-time "District Commander" Shaukat Bakhshi and his brother Shakeel Bakhshi at Gausiya Colony, Bemina. The J&K police and the CRPF have laid siege around these locations to facilitate smooth raids, the official sources said.

During all these months NIA has been acting like notorious character "Gabber Singh" and this agency has so far not only arrested many resistance leaders and businessmen but ruined business and careers of many people. He said the offices of the Chartered Accountants of Hawala operator Zahoor Watali and residences of suspect cross-LoC traders were also searched as they were suspected of fuelling secessionist and subversive activities in Kashmir Valley.

Meanwhile NIA also raided the residence of Hurriyat-G General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji at Bijbehara in South Kashmir. The house of Salamabad cross-LoC traders Union President, Hilal Ahmad Khan (Turki) was also raided at Natipora, Nowgam.

However NIA did not arrest any of the suspects on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik have chose to protest and court arrest at the headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on Saturday.
