Previous year victor Miss America 2017 Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields Crowned Miss America 2018 title to the Miss North Dakota Cara Mund. The 51 contestants in Sunday night's competition worked for years to get to that stage in Atlantic City, and while Miss Florida was concerned for everyone in her home state, she also insisted that, "No matter what happens, we are strong and we can do it; we can get through anything together".

Cara Mund has received a $50.000 scholarship and will also have a six-figure salary over the time she is the reigning Miss America.

Mund competed at Miss America under five categories - personal interview, talent, evening gown, life style and fitness, and onstage question.

During the Miss America pageant Mund was asked about Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord and she voiced her opinion and said it was wrong to remove the USA out of the negotiations. "I do believe it's a bad decision", she said.

"195 countries signed the Paris agreement, in which each country sets non-bidding goals to reduce man-made climate change", Menounos explained. "There is evidence that climate change is existing".

A new Miss America has been crowned.

She takes the place of Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields, of Arkansas.

Following four nights of intense competition in Atlantic City, N.J., Cara Mund, of North Dakota was crowned Miss America 2018.

Hours after leading the Eagles to a season-opening 30-17 win over the Redskins, Carson Wentz had his name dropped by the newest Miss America. "Once we reject that, we take ourselves out of the negotiation table", she said referring to the Paris agreement.

The new Miss America is a graduate of Brown University and grew up in Bismark, North Dakota.

'It's important to have a woman's perspective, ' Mund, who had an internship in the U.S. Senate with Senator John Hoeven, told the AP.

"She's a lovely girl, so happy for you", another told Mund's mother.

"I literally don't understand how she thinks taking away confederate statues erases American history, B***h read a damn book", one user sharply criticised on Twitter.

It turns out, Mund used Wentz as inspiration during her run to the title.

Miss Texas Margana Wood gave a shout-out to her flooded hometown, Houston; she won Wednesday night's swimsuit preliminary.
