Gas prices rise in Las Vegas

The upswing in prices marked a swift reversal from last week, when prices had declined in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Comparing it to other gas prices at this time in previous years, gas was $2.27 per gallon in 2016 and 2015, $3.53 per gallon in 2014, $3.58 per gallon in 2013 and $4.07 per gallon in 2012.

On Monday, prices were at $2.79 per gallon, 10 cents lower than the state average, which went up almost 4 cents per gallon over the same span, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 5,269 gas outlets in Pennsylvania. "However, the effects are finally starting to weaken as refineries return to production and fuel begins to flow once again from many Houston refineries". Overall, the potential storm-related increase in gas buying, combined with delivery delays will likely cause gas prices to continue increasing into the weekend. That's 30.4 cents higher than a month ago and 48.1 cents higher than a year ago. Once again, motorists shouldn't expect to see any impact from Irma on gasoline prices due to the path being a considerable distance from sensitive areas of the energy sector.

The average in the state of Nevada also increased. The average price a year ago at this time in MA was $2.10.

GasBuddy.com says the Monday average was $2.69 in Kalamazoo, $2.72 in Grand Rapids and $2.71 in Lansing.

DeHaan said reduced demand should help alleviate pain at the pump. After Harvey knocked out a quarter of the U.S.'s refining capacity, gas prices increased across the country.
