Arsenal travel to face the champions at Stamford Bridge less than three days after playing in the Europa League. So far this season, even with the absence of the brilliant Santi Cazorla and the struggles of other central midfielders in the squad, Wilshere has still been unable to get a look in a game since the pre-season ended.

"This is a different competition and we want to win every competition we play in, but we don't calculate that this is the best way to the Champions League qualification".

"On the injury front we have no big problems, a few players have some response to the fact they played two global games like Ozil and Ramsey, who are rested completely".

However, Alexis Sanchez is likely to start the match, after training in the last three days following his appearance off the bench against Bournemouth.

"It's always nice to have good players alongside you".

Asked if he can get back to his best, Wenger replied: "Yes, if he is injury-free he will come back".

Hector Bellerin has claimed that Arsenal can still win the Premier League title this season - and has used Chelsea as an example of how the Gunners can do so.

"Every game is an opportunity for him, and this season is a good opportunity for him". Manager Jose Mourinho made winning the competition a priority as United slipped to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Wilshere is expected to start against Koln with up to seven first-team players rested. "People expect a lot", Wenger said of the Englishman.

"We needed this win definitely because we had a tough start, but with the two away games it was not easy and we wanted to bounce back as we can and it was a great, strong character response", he said somewhat predictably.

The Arsenal boss remained unconvinced and admitted during the transfer window that he had not decided whether to seek a similar loan move for Wilshere, whose contract expires next summer. But Wilshere stayed and, having returned to full training following a fractured leg suffered towards the end of his time with Bournemouth, the England global is now expected to come back into the Arsenal side.
