Police said former casino worker Danley was not believed to be involved in the shooting but investigators are hoping she can shed light on Paddock's state of mind and their relationship as they try to find a motive for the sickening attack.

Married and divorced twice, Stephen Paddock most recently lived in Mesquite, Nevada, with his girlfriend Marilou Danley, who police said was out of the country during the shooting. She was in the Philippines at the time of the deadly attack that left 59 dead.

"No one can put the puzzles together, no one except Marilou", one of the sister's told Channel 7.

"Marilou Danley is my sister, she is a good person and gentle soul". No one. Except Marilou.

She left there on September 22 then returned three days later on a flight from Hong Kong.

At the time, Danley was living in Reno, on the border of Nevada and California, according to the court document.

Mangrobang said authorities in the Philippines have been communicating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Department of Homeland Security.

"We anticipate some information from her shortly", Lombardo said. In fact, they said the only reason she was in the Philippines was because Paddock told her he had found a cheap ticket.

When the horrific news broke that Paddock had killed 59 people and injured 527 others from his suite at the Mandalay Bay, Mendoza said everyone at the Starbucks were shocked. One photo shows Paddock's legs splayed on the floor near several weapons, apparently after he killed himself.

Danley's sisters, speaking to CNN affiliate Seven Network Australia, said that Danley didn't know anything about the shooting ahead of time and that Paddock "sent her away" before the attack.

A police official revealed she voluntarily returned to the USA in a bid to "clear her name" of any involvement in the massacre.

Paddock ended Sunday night's shooting spree, the deadliest in modern USA history, by killing himself.

"We are making arrangements to contact her upon her return", he said.

It's been revealed Paddock placed cameras around his motel room so he could watch for police during his killing spree.

Police are not aware whether the devices were transmitting - the FBI is investigating their use - but the Clark County sheriff told reporters he thinks the shooter might have used them to watch for people approaching his room.

However, no terrorist links have been confirmed and officials were earlier keen to play down the notion that Paddock was working with anybody.

According to the Brisbane Courier Mail, Danley is an Australian citizen.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said her government was working with United States authorities but told CNN affiliate Sky News on Monday that Australia had had no contact with Danley directly.

Marilou Danley, who is believed to have moved in with the Las Vegas mass murderer in his Mesquite, Nev., home earlier this year, was expected to return to the US today.
