Also new in the line-up is the "P400e", Land Rover's first plug-in hybrid. 0 to 60 acceleration is now just 4.3 seconds with an unrestricted top speed of 174mph making it the quickest of all Land Rovers.

Land Rover said the plug-in hybrid means "customers can experience zero-emission near-silent off-road luxury with uncompromised all-terrain capability" for the first time, while also having free access to most congestion charging zones.

The 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR with its 5.0L Supercharged V8 now has 25 more horsepower with a total 575 horsepower on tap to give the SUV a 0-60 miles per hour time of only 4.3 seconds.

"These 2018 updates make the Range Rover Sport an even more attractive proposition with Carbon dioxide emissions down to 64g/km and a 101mpg on the combined cycle coupled with new infotainment technology making life simpler". There are two driving modes including Parallel Hybrid and EV modes.

Land Rover's chief design officer Gerry McGovern added: "When we started the design process with this new Range Rover Sport, it was important that we maintained its sporting prowess while evolving the exterior design".

Land Rover achieved its best ever September, up 14%, to 6,407 cars, with strong sales across the Range Rover family. Its all-electric range meanwhile (the reward for sacrificing almost 80 litres of boot space to make way for the battery) is quoted at 31 miles. There is also the EV (electric vehicle) mode enabling the vehicle to run exclusively on the electric motor using energy stored in the battery.

This uses two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens housed in the dash to control features such as the satellite navigation and vehicle settings, and lends the SUV's cabin a more minimalist and futuristic aesthetic. "All it takes to open the blind is a rearward swipe in front of the rear-view mirror, and forwards to close" and new "Pixel laser LED headlights" at the front. The system can be charged in two hours, 45 minutes with the aid of a 32amp wall box or seven hours and 30 minutes using the standard 10amp charging cable.

The top-spec Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by the Jaguar F-type SVR's 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine that develops 575hp (a bump of 25hp over the outgoing model) and 700Nm of peak torque. He also hailed the diesel and petrol engines as "our cleanest ever". And to keeps all other screens alive as well, the sportiest Range Rover can be ordered with up to 12 power outlets.
